Introduction to the Apocrypha and the Septuagint

From the course “The Apocrypha and Christianity”, this excerpt dicusses the nomenclature and origins of the Apocrypha. The lecture was delivered on 02/14/2010.

Comment under the video: “The “young woman” in the Hebrew of Isaiah 7:14 was translated “virgin” in the Greek in the LXX. The author of Matthew 1:23 obviously used the LXX in citing the Old Testament. The Dead Sea Scrolls confirms the Hebrew sources of some LXX books. The deuterocanon was affirmed by the Council of Carthage in 397 A.D., which the Council of Trent in the 16th century merely confirmed.”
