Evidence has shown that China has the world’s longest-running observations of the sky. Obsessed by what they saw, Chinese people aspired for more knowledge about the heavens by getting closer to it even thousands of years ago. The dream of space travel has been rooted in Chinese history and culture.

When gazing at the beautiful sky overhand, Chinese ancestors were tempted to dream about a trip there, since a long time ago. They have made the remote fantasy into numerous poems, paintings and other art forms.

Although the attempt cost Wan his life, his name will always be recorded in the world’s history of astronomy.

China is getting ready to launch an unmanned laboratory into space on Thursday, marking the first ambitious step to building the country’s very own space station. The experimental module ‘Tiangong 1’, also known as ‘Heavenly palace’, will be launched from the Gobi desert in China’s northwest. Officials have promised to complete the construction of the station by the end of the decade. The editor of ‘News of the cosmonautics magazine’ Igor Lisov believes China’s exploration of space is fueled by its desire to catch up with other countries.

China has successfully launched an experimental module to lay the groundwork for a future space station, underscoring its ambitions to become a major space power.

Thursday’s launch brings the growing Asian power closer to matching the US and Russia and comes at a time when budget restraints and shifting priorities have held back US manned space launches.

Al Jazeera’s Andy Gallagher reports on how this will affect the US’ own efforts

Album Release concert @ Barby Tel Aviv for Rasta Power‘s debut album in hebrew – Hanisuy(the experiment).

“Rasta Power – a positive music group.

The band has seven people who recorded in the year 2009
Their debut Album in Hebrew “The Experiment.” Band members were assisted by the High Priest of the groove scene in Israel, Yossi Fine. The album was produced and cooked in order to achieve the highest level of positive quality.

After the release of the first album, the unique positive sound of Rasta Power began to spread its wings all over Israel and led the band to meet up with one of the biggest contributors to the global Reggae/Rock scene, Easy Star’s producer Michael Goldwasser(Dub Side of the Moon, Cas Haley and many more).

The match was perfect and the joined forces went on to make a new album in English; “Taking Over”. The idea is to bring the Middle Eastern fire through the positive vibrations of Roots Reggae and Hip Hop to all nations, especially to rebel teenagers seeking for a righteous path to protest.

Taking Over” – includes 12 tracks of music to make you feel good.”

Happy New Year ~ Rosh Hashanah

1 Oct

EDIT ~ Adding this video:
The Message resonates with me.
“Rosh Hashana: What’s Love Got to Do With It?
A surprising way to prepare for the High Holidays.”

Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, falls on the Hebrew calendar dates of 1 and 2 Tishrei. Here are the coinciding secular dates for 2011: September 28 (at sundown) – 30

Note: The Jewish calendar date begins at sundown of the night beforehand. Thus all holiday observances begin at sundown on the secular dates listed, with the following day being the first full day of the holiday. Jewish calendar dates conclude at nightfall.

Rosh Hashanah
(Hebrew: ראש השנה‎), (literally “head of the year”), is the Jewish New Year. The first of the High Holy days or Yamim Nora’im (“Days of Awe”), Rosh Hashanah is observed and celebrated on the first two days of Tishrei, the seventh month of the Hebrew calendar (nine and eight days before Yom Kippur). It is described in the Torah as יום תרועה (Yom Teru’ah, a day of sounding [the Shofar]).

Rosh Hashanah marks the start of a new year in the Hebrew calendar (one of four “new year” observances that define various legal “years” for different purposes as explained in the Mishnah and Talmud). //

In Jewish liturgy Rosh Hashanah is described as “the day of judgment” (Yom ha-Din) and “the day of remembrance” (Yom ha-Zikkaron). Some midrashic descriptions depict God as sitting upon a throne, while books containing the deeds of all humanity are opened for review, and each person passing in front of Him for evaluation of his or her deeds. The Talmud provides three central ideas behind the day:

“The Holy One said, ‘on Rosh Hashanah recite before Me [verses of] Sovereignty, Remembrance, and Shofar blasts (malchuyot, zichronot, shofrot): Sovereignty so that you should make Me your King; Remembrance so that your remembrance should rise up before Me. And through what? Through the Shofar.’ (Rosh Hashanah 16a, 34b)”

This is reflected in the prayers composed by the classical rabbinic sages for Rosh Hashanah found in all machzorim where the theme of the prayers is the strongest theme is the “coronation” of God as King of the universe in preparation for the acceptance of judgments that will follow on that day, symbolized as “written” into a Divine book of judgments, that then hang in the balance for ten days waiting for all to repent, then they will be “sealed” on Yom Kippur. The assumption is that everyone was sealed for life and therefore the next festival is Sukkot (Tabernacles) that is referred to as “the time of our joy” (z’man simchateinu).

O Source of peace, lead us to peace,
a peace profound and true;

lead us to a healing,
to mastery of all that drives us to war
within ourselves and with others.

May our deeds inscribe us in the book of life
and blessing, righteousness and peace.

O Source of peace, bless us with peace.

Gates of Repentence.

Song Lyrics:
Synagogue, Rabbi’s talk, going on for a while, can you check the clock, huh
Cantor’s opera, lost my spot, do you know the place, choir in the slot
Wine we drink, with family now, good deeds you do, good for your soul
Fish head, ram’s horn, shofar blow, give some money, appeal for dough

Yo, I’m returnin’ to the fold can you explain mo’
Got this desire to know Torah scroll, say hello
Our prayers rock, yeah, we’re the Jews and we question
Got the pride, just cant stop, our lives are changin’
Rosh Hashanah’s in the house tonight

All the world is passing through the light
Let’s all get written in the book of Life
Shana Tova — It’s High Holiday time

Taking stock is what we do tonight
Shana Tova — it’s High Holiday time
Let’s all get written in the book of Life
Blow the shofar and — Shuckle!

Three times a day I’m shucklin’
shucklin’, shucklin’

Shofar blast, all across the world we will do this task
Apples and honey, feelin’ glad — now stop, never get mad

Fill the Kiddush cup, my friends around
Books are opened up, the challah’s round
All our history, we see it now
Now please hear our plea, we’re prayin’ now

Stand up, sit down, pass the prayer books around
Stand up, sit down, pass the prayer books around
Stand up, sit down, pass the prayer books around
Pass the prayer books around, pass the prayer books around

Rosh Hashanah’s in the house tonight
All the world is passing through the light
Let’s all get written in the book of Life
Shana Tova — it’s High Holiday time

Taking stock is what we do tonight
Shana Tova — it’s High Holiday time
Let’s all get written in the book of Life
Blow the shofar and — Shuckle!

Everyday I’m shucklin’

Feel free to greet your Jewish friends
and neighbors with “Happy New Year,”
or to use the Hebrew expression “Shana Tova,”
which is a wish for a “good new year.”
